About this certificate

Fit-to-work note

Fit-to-work certificate

As confirmation that you are fit to carry out your role, or that you have recovered from a sickness or health condition that has affected your ability to work, your employer may require a fit-to-work certificate to support your safe return to the workplace.

Our doctors can provide you with a same-day medical certificate that will confirm that you are fit to work. If returning after an illness or health condition, the certificate will also confirm whether you are fully or partially recovered, with recommendations for your safe or gradual return where applicable. No appointment is needed – simply apply online.

What will I receive?

You will receive a verifiable digital PDF letter signed by a medical professional and sent directly to your mobile, containing the following details:

  • Your name, date of birth and workplace.
  • A statement confirming that you are fit to work.
  • Signature and authorisation by one of our GMC-registered UK doctors.
  • Contact details of ZoomDoc Health with a QR code enabling a verification check.

Important – our fit-to-work certificate

Our innovative online service to provide fit-to-work certificates can only be provided for workplace roles that are deemed low risk. A role with increased potential dangers will require a face-to-face assessment with a medical practitioner to check your heart, lungs and blood pressure, and to arrange eye and visual checks.

Some of the roles for which we cannot provide fit-to-work notes include:

  • Any driving roles
  • Motorsports drivers
  • HGV and bus drivers
  • Taxi drivers, forklift drivers and ambulance drivers
  • Crane operators
  • Working at heights and scaffolding

You can contact our expert team today if you are unsure whether you can receive a fit for work medical certificate from ZoomDoc. We also offer a full refund service if we cannot provide a certificate for any reason. You might be looking for the work sickness medical letter page.

Please note: ZoomDoc Health is a private UK doctor service – the medical certificates we provide are not the same as NHS Med3 Fit Notes, which are only available from healthcare professionals delivering NHS services.
Our fit-to-work note expires 90 days after the date of issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Get a Fit to Work Certificate?

You can get a same-day fit for work medical certificate from ZoomDoc with no appointment required.

Fit-to-work certificates allow you to return to work after a period of illness, particularly when you have been signed off work by a doctor or healthcare professional. ZoomDoc provides the fastest way to obtain fit-to-work certificates without the need to wait for an in person appointment with your doctor or GP, which is a particularly important service if your permitted paid-sick days are about to run out, allowing you to return to work quicker than waiting for a traditional appointment.

Can I Self Certify as Fit to Work?

If you have been off sick for up to 7 days then you can simply inform your employer that you are fit to work again. This method does not require confirmation or medical evidence from a doctor, and is usually the most appropriate method of returning to work from a brief period of illness. This 7 day period includes every calendar day, and not just the days you would normally work.

If you have been off work for more than 7 days then your employer will likely request a fit note or statement of fitness from your doctor or other medical professional.

”Our amazing 5-star Trustpilot reviews are testament to the high quality of service that our team of doctors provides. We know that employees can often find it difficult to access doctors for medical letters when these are requested by the workplace. Our medical letters all have QR codes that make it easy to confirm validity when provided to your workplace.“
